Access to GMO-free and suitable seeds for organic cotton cultivation is a challenge. High-quality, GMO-free seeds that are adapted to organic conditions are crucial for organic cotton cultivation. That is why the bioRe Foundation has been promoting research into organic cotton seeds in India since 2010. A long-term collaboration with a big impact.

We are incredibly proud of our partner organization in India, because for the first time, two hybrid seeds were produced directly on site by our research team and prepared for the planned validation trial in 2025/26 – a significant milestone in independent seed development. In addition, bioRe researchers have bred 30 new hybrids, whose potential will be tested in the coming growing seasons.

For this pioneering achievement in seed breeding, the bioRe Association in India was awarded the prize for the best seed breeding technique at the World Cotton Research Conference (WCRC-8) in Tashkent, which took place from October 3 to 10, 2024, and was attended by research teams from 26 countries.
