The SysCom India article, published on February 14, 2020, presents the case study from central India where the participatory approach was applied to address P deficiency problems in cotton-based biosystems. The article both reviews attempts to increase P availability in the context of smallholder, low-input, and organic farming, and describes the successful process of POR that was applied in this case.
From 2010 to 2014, a total of 61 field trials were conducted in farmers’ fields to evaluate the agronomic effectiveness of buttermilk-acidified RP compost. Application of buttermilk-acidified RP fertilizer resulted in higher yields of cotton in all field trials and higher yields of soybeans in all but one field trial. In wheat, yields increased in the majority of farms, although yields were the same or lower in some farms.
