Textile Exchange: „ORGANIC COTTON MARKET REPORT 2020“

Contribution of the bioRe® Foundation to the topic: PROGRAM INSIGHTS | CLIMATE IMPACTS & ACTIONS

The bioRe Foundation shared its experience with the environmental and socio-economic impacts of organic cotton farming:

The ecological impact can be seen in the considerable increase in biodiversity in the cotton fields. The diverse flora provides habitat for small animals and insects and creates a natural balance between livestock and pests.
Compared to conventionally farmed land, our organic agriculture has increased biomass and significantly improved soil structure.

The economic impact is very clear for our organic farmers in Tanzania. Over the years, bioRe farmers have managed to increase their yields through the use of new seeds or better farming methods such as sowing in rows. Their profits are superior to conventional cotton farming.
